This gorgeous feature with its organic curves, reminds me of the beautiful riads I slept in while in Morocco. They were first used by the ancient Romans who produced arches using concrete in the second millennium BC.
They have come in and out of interior fashion ever since. In recent times, they have been popular in the 1920s and 1980s and have made a huge comeback starting in 2020.
Arches are playful, yet elevated and can really break up all the straight lines we often see in most rooms. They can act as a link between spaces, or as standalone features in their own right. Arches may be trending now, but they definitely give a nod to traditional interiors.
Unless you are planning on picking up your tools and adding them architecturally to your house, or have some current arches (lucky you!) in your existing interior, they can be costly to create. However, you don't have to spend big or make huge changes if you wish to jump on the arched bandwagon!
We have used them in bathrooms via the shower glass, through our mirrors, furniture, art pieces and soft furnishings like cushions and bedheads for a relatively inexpensive price.
Here are 8 ways you can use arches to elevate your interiors.
